Rams sign veteran Chris Chandler

ST. LOUIS, March 23 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Rams signed 38-year-old quarterback Chris Chandler and safety Rich Coady to contracts Tuesday.

The 16-year NFL veteran Chandler, who agreed to a three-year deal, replaces Scott Covington as the team's third-string quarterback behind Marc Bulger and Kurt Warner.

Chandler is the only quarterback to start for seven NFL teams, including the Rams in 1994 when they were in Los Angeles. He started six games for them that season.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Chandler played the past two seasons for the Chicago Bears, who released him Friday.

He has passed for 28,021 yards and 168 touchdowns in 16 years in the NFL.

Coady re-signed for one year. The 6-1, 210-pound safety played in 13 games last season and made 52 tackles, the highest total of his career.
