NHL: Carolina 3, Ottawa 2 (OT)

OTTAWA, March 20 (UPI) -- Josef Vasicek scored the equalizer midway through the third period and set up Bret Hedican's overtime goal Saturday as Carolina beat Ottawa, 3-2.

Goalless since Feb. 21, Vasicek was credited with his 17th of the season at 11:02 of the third when the rebound of defenseman Sean Hill's shot caromed off his skate and past goaltender Patrick Laime.

With one minute to go in overtime, Vasicek intercepted a pass in his own zone and led a 2-on-1. From the right faceoff circle, he fed to Hedican, who redirected the puck by Laime at the left goapost for his second goal in as many games.

Hill aso scored for the Hurricanes, who improved to 7


1-3 on the road since Feb. 23.

Marian Hossa and Jason Spezza talied for Ottawa.
