INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- James Blake quieted Taylor Dent's booming delivery for a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1 victory Wednesday that put him in the quarterfinals of the Pacific Life Open
Blake will face lefthander Irakli Labadze of Georgia, who surprised Argentine Agustin Calleri, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Also, ninth seed Tim Henman of Britain dispatched Australian Wayne Arthurs, 6-1, 6-3, to complete the day session.
On the night card, third-seeded American Andy Roddick faced Frenchman Nicolas Escude and No. 19 Nathalie Dechy of France took on 15th seed Fabiola Zuluaga of Colombia.
Blake had 53 winners -- 20 more than his opponent -- and had just one ace whiz by him in the two-hour battle.
Dent had chances in the opening set, but could not cash in. He led, 5-4, and held a set point on Blake's serve.
Knotted at 4-4 in the tiebreaker, Dent committed one of his nine double faults that eventually cost him the set.
