NHL: Detroit 3, Dallas 0

DETROIT, March 13 (UPI) -- Derian Hatcher, signed by Detroit after spending his first 12 years in Dallas, helped Manny Legace record a shutout Saturday in a 3-0 win over the Stars.

The win extended the Red Wings' unbeaten streak to seven games (6

1) and increased their lead to three points over Colorado for first place in the NHL Western Conference.

This was Hatcher's third game since missing four months following knee surgery. He played in three exhibition games against Dallas, but missed the first three regular season games.

Legace earned his second shutout of the season with 31 saves.

It appeared Dallas snapped the shutout bid when Mike Modano scored with a minute left, but the goal was disallowed since the Stars were penalized for a premature substitution.

Kirk Maltby and Brett Hull scored second-period goals for Detroit and Darren McCarty put one into an empty net with 17 seconds left in the third.
