DOHA, Qatar, March 12 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Masters champion Ian Woosnam of Wales shared the second-round lead in the Qatar Masters Friday with four other players.
Woosnam, 47, shot a second straight 69 in the European Tour event. He was tied with Andrew Oldcorn of Scotland, Gregory Havaret of France, Nubuhito Sato of Japan and Irishman Gary Murphy at 6-under-par 138.
"I'm struggling to get to the par-5s in two, but last week and this week you haven't had to hit it long to do well," Woosnam said.
The long putter he has been using "made a big difference," he said.
Woosnam won the Masters in the United States in 1991 but hasn't won a tour event in seven years.
Among those missing the Qatar cut was Paul McGinley, one of the pre-tournament favorites.
