76ers Robinson scheduled for elbow surgery

PHILADELPHIA, March 11 (UPI) -- Philadelphia forward Glenn Robinson will have elbow surgery next week but said he expects to be back for the NBA playoffs -- if the 76ers get there.

The 6-foot-7 Robinson, averaging 16.6 points per game, has been bothered by an inflammation in his right elbow and missed five of the team's last seven games.

Tests showed he has bone chips in the elbow and surgery is scheduled Tuesday.

"It's been bothering me for a while, and every time it flares up it gets worse and worse," Robinson said. "I expect to be back and I expect to be in the playoffs."

The 76ers are tied for 10th in the Eastern Conference, 1 1/2 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot.
