NHL: St. Louis 3, NY Islanders 2 (OT)

ST. LOUIS, March 9 (UPI) -- Pavol Demitra scored 61 seconds into overtime Tuesday to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders.

After taking a pass from Christian Backman outside the Islanders' blue line, Demitra faked a slap shot, then snapped a wrist shot from the right circle that trickled through the legs of goaltender Rick DiPietro.

The Islanders managed only one shot in the second, but it resulted in the tying goal by Mark Parrish. Shawn Bates gave New York a 2-1 lead 84 seconds into the third.
