ST. LOUIS, March 9 (UPI) -- Pavol Demitra scored 61 seconds into overtime Tuesday to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
After taking a pass from Christian Backman outside the Islanders' blue line, Demitra faked a slap shot, then snapped a wrist shot from the right circle that trickled through the legs of goaltender Rick DiPietro.
Alexei Yashin returned for New York after missing 35 games with a left arm laceration, but the Islanders gave up two power-play goals and squandered a 2-1 third-period lead.
Alex Khavanov tied the game 5:59 into the third period for the Blues, who posted their third straight victory. Keith Tkachuk opened the scoring for St. Louis 57 seconds into the second period.
The Islanders managed only one shot in the second, but it resulted in the tying goal by Mark Parrish. Shawn Bates gave New York a 2-1 lead 84 seconds into the third.
