'Mean' Joe Greene returns to Steelers

PITTSBURGH, March 9 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame defensive tackle "Mean" Joe Greene is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers, this time in the front office.

Greene, who has been defensive line coach for the Arizona Cardinals the past eight years, was named special assistant/player personnel and will help evaluate players and handle various scouting activities, the Steelers said.

"Having Joe Greene return to our organization is tremendous," Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney said. "Joe has meant so much to our organization and this opportunity for him to return is something that was extremely appealing."

Greene played for the Steelers from 1969 through 1981 and was their defensive line coach from 1987 to 1992. He then coached defensive linemen with the Miami Dolphins before going to Arizona.

"It is wonderful to be back," Greene said. "This is perfect timing for a career change; I look forward to it. My feelings and love for the organization go without saying. It is an automatic."
