Eagles sign free agent linebacker

PHILADELPHIA, March 9 (UPI) -- Dhani Jones, a starter at weakside linebacker for the New York Giants over the last two seasons, signed a five-year contract Tuesday with Philadelphia.

Last Friday, the Giants signed Carlos Emmons, the Eagles' starting strongside linebacker who broke his right leg in a December 21 game against San Francisco, to a multi-year contract.

Last season, Jones recorded a career-high 154 tackles and three sacks, highlighted by an 18-tackle game against Dallas on Sept. 15.

A sixth-round pick in 2000, Jones stepped into a starting role in New York in 2002 after Jessie Armstead was waived and recorded 101 tackles.

Losers in the NFC championship game each of the last three years, the Eagles previously added defensive end Jevon Kearse, the top free agent pass rusher on the market.
