NEW YORK, March 5 (UPI) -- Jason LaBarbera recorded his first NHL win and point Friday night as the New York Rangers defeated Washington, 3-2.
It was the Rangers' first home game since trading defenseman Brian Leetch.
Recalled on Thursday from Hartford of the American Hockey League, where he was enjoying a record-breaking season, LaBarbera made 19 saves and helped the Rangers snap a four-game losing streak.
He also assisted on Bobby Holik's power-play goal that snapped a 2-2 tie with 9:16 left in the third period.
LaBarbera, who should play frequently down the stretch with the Rangers out of a playoff contention for the seventh straight year, posted a 26-7-8 mark at Hartford and broke a 61-year-old AHL record with 12 shutouts.
Leetch, who spent his first 17 seasons with the Rangers, was traded Wednesday to the Toronto Maple Leafs as part of New York's housecleaning.
