Jenkins was in the third year of a four-year contract that was to pay him $8.5 million this year. Terms of the extension were not disclosed.

"It was important for me to try and get this contract done here," Jenkins said. "The fans have treated me great since the day I was drafted by the Brewers back in 1995 and I want to be part of the good years that I see ahead for this team."

Jenkins batted .296 with 28 homers and 95 runs batted in last season and was named to the National League All-Star team. He has played 650 games in his career, all with the Brewers.
