NHL: Detroit 4, Philadelphia 2

DETROIT, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Robert Lang had three assists in his Red Wings debut and Brendan Shanahan ended a nine-game goal drought as Detroit took a 4-2 win over Philadelphia.

Entering one point behind Philadelphia and Ottawa for first overall in the NHL, the Red Wings got their first look at Lang, who was acquired Friday from Washington for a prospect and two draft picks.

The All-Star Czech did not disappoint, setting up all but one of Detroit's goals to extend his points streak to 14 games and regain the league lead in scoring from Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis with 77 points.

With the Red Wings clinging to a one-goal lead, Shanahan converted a power-play chance midway through the third period to give his team breathing room. It was the 19th goal of the season for Shanahan.

Mathieu Schneider, Steve Yzerman and Kirk Maltby also scored for the Red Wings.
