WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Robert Lang ran his points streak to 10 games with a third-period goal Thursday night as Washington downed New Jersey, 3-1.
Olaf Kolzig made 43 saves in helping the Capitals run their unbeaten streak to three games.
Mike Grier and Matt Pettinger scored in a span of 10 minutes midway through the second period and defenseman Sergei Gonchar picked up a pair of assists as Washington improved to 1-1-1-1 against the Devils this season.
Lang, who is trying to become the first Capital to win the scoring title, moved into the league lead with his 69th point.
With Washington clinging to a 2-1 lead and New Jersey peppering Kolzig, Lang capitalized on a pass from Gonchar and beat Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen with a low wrist shot from the left faceoff circle.
