Mike Grier and Matt Pettinger scored in a span of 10 minutes midway through the second period and defenseman Sergei Gonchar picked up a pair of assists as Washington improved to 1-1-1-1 against the Devils this season.

Lang, who is trying to become the first Capital to win the scoring title, moved into the league lead with his 69th point.

With Washington clinging to a 2-1 lead and New Jersey peppering Kolzig, Lang capitalized on a pass from Gonchar and beat Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen with a low wrist shot from the left faceoff circle.
