Sturm registered a goal and two assists for his first three-point outing since Oct. 12, 2002.

San Jose was coming off a 7-3 loss at Nashville but took out its frustrations on the Blackhawks, who continued their fire sale. Earlier Thursday, Chicago traded center Alexei Zhamnov to the Philadelphia Flyers in its second deal in as many days.

Patrick Marleau and Vincent Damphousse each contributed a goal and an assist for the Sharks.

Tuomo Ruutu, Brett McLean and Bryan Berard scored for the Blackhawks. McLean and Berard tallied in the third period to cut the deficit to 5-3 before Jonathan Cheechoo added an empty-netter with 19 seconds left.
