Bulls reach settlement with Jay Williams

CHICAGO, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bulls have agreed to an injury settlement with point guard Jay Williams eho was involved in a motorcycle accident last June 19.

Williams suffered a fractured pelvis and ligament damage to his knee. The Bulls officially requested waivers on Williams on Tuesday. This is required by league rules when a team and a player reach an injury settlement.

As a result of the settlement, the Bulls have agreed to pay Williams a reduced portion of his salary for this season and next, which were the two years remaining on his contract at the time of his motorcycle accident.

The second overall pick in the 2002 draft, Williams averaged 9.5 points and 4.7 assists in 75 games as a rookie with the Bulls.

The 22-year-old Williams played three seasons at Duke and helped the Blue Devils to the NCAA championship in 2001.
