NHL: Ottawa 4, NY Rangers 1

NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Zdeno Chara and Josh Langfield scored in a 42-second span of the third period Monday as the Ottawa Senators posted a 4-1 victort over the New York Rangers.

Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski also scored for the Senators, who extended their winning streak to four games.

The Senators handed the Rangers their worst loss in more than a decade on Jan. 24 in Ottawa, scoring four times in the first period and coasting to a 9-1 win. New York was outplayed in the third and fell to 3-11-2 in its last 16 games.

Chara broke a 1-1 tie at 7:11 of the third when his shot got past goaltender Jussi Markkanen.

Less than a minute later, Langfield put a rebound past Markkanen. Smolinksi capped the scoring with his 15th goal at 14:06 of the third.

The Rangers managed a season-low 15 shots on Patrick Lalime.
