Harkleroad wins, Ginepri out at St. Jude

MEMPHIS, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Two seeded women from the United States reached the second round Monday at the Kroger St. Jude Tennis Championships.

Two American men were not as successful.

Fifth-seeded teenager Ashley Harkleroad crushed Croatia's Silvija Talaja, 6-3, 6-1, and No. 6 Amy Frazier defeated American qualifier Angela Haynes, 6-4, 6-2.

But fourth seed Robby Ginepri of the United States fell to France's Cyril Saulnier, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, and Sweden's Thomas Enqvist eliminated fifth seed Vincent Spadea, 6-4, 7-5.

Joachim Johansson of Sweden had a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 victory over Korean Hyung-Taik Lee and Belgian Xavier Malisse topped American qualifier Amer Delic, 6-4, 6-3.

Martina Sucha of Slovakia defeated Jelena Jankovic of Yugoslavia, 7-5, 7-5, and Russia's Tatiana Panova overcame Italian Rita Grande, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-1.
