Davis dethrones Casey at ANZ Championship

PORT STEPHENS, Australia, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Brian Davis ended a four-year European Tour victory drought Sunday with a one-point triumph over defending champion Paul Casey at the ANZ Championship.

Davis made 10 birdies and three bogeys for 17 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system. That boosted his four-day total to 44 points, enough for his second European Tour win and first since the 2000 Open de Espana.

Casey missed an eagle putt at the 18th hole and finished with 43 points.

Third-round leader Steve Webster came unglued on the final hole. Seeking his first European Tour title, Webster needed an eagle to win but sent his drive out of bounds, then found the water en route to a double-bogey that dropped him into a sixth-place tie with Nick O'Hern of Australia.

Former U.S. Amateur champion Ricky Barnes, almost disqualified after the second round, tied for eighth with 35 points after collecting five on Sunday.
