Knight receives reprimand for his words

LUBBOCK, Texas, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Texas Tech University announced late Tuesday that basketball coach Bob Knight will receive a reprimand for remarks he made to the chancellor.

Athletic Director Gerald Myers said Knight would not be suspended because of the exchange with chancellor David Smith on Monday but there would be a reprimand.

"This is a misunderstanding and has now been rectified," he said in a statement. "The matter has been resolved in the best interest of the university."

Knight expressed regrets in the university statement.

"I look forward to finishing this season in a strong fashion and I am glad the situation is behind me so that I can return to the business of coaching," he said.

Knight got into a heated argument with Smith after the two met in passing at a popular Lubbock lunch spot, according to The Dallas Morning News. Smith remarked how well Knight had behaved lately and Knight became angry and began shouting.

Knight had to apologize in December after he used profanities repeatedly during an interview with ESPN but the university took no action against the colorful coach.
