Cleveland Browns hire Ron Wolf

CLEVELAND, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Ron Wolf, who helped build a championship team in Green Bay, was named a personnel specialist for the Cleveland Browns on Thursday.

Inducted into Green Bay's Hall of Fame in 2000, Wolf was the Packers' general manager and executive vice president when they won Super Bowl XXXI and consecutive NFC championships in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. Wolf oversaw Packers' drafts from 1992-99.

Green Bay's 35-21 victory over New England in Super Bowl XXXI gave the Packers their first championship since Super Bowl II in 1968.

Prior to retiring in 2001, Wolf spent 11 years in Green Bay's front office. During that span, the Packers posted a 75-35 record and made six straight playoff appearances.

"I am really excited to be able to work with the Cleveland Browns," Wolf said. "I have a lot of respect for Carmen Policy and Butch Davis and look forward to helping them in any way I can."
