GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Shean Donovan scored on a penalty shot with just over two minutes remaining Tuesday to give the Calgary Flames a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.
Honored during a pregame ceremony for his record-setting shutout streak earlier this month, Phoenix's Brian Boucher did not play in this one, stepping aside for Sean Burke. Making just his third start in 13 games, Burke made a mistake late in the second period that led to Calgary's first goal.
With time winding down in the third and the game deadlocked, 1-1, Donovan was awarded a penalty shot despite being able to get off an attempt after being pulled down from behind by defenseman Ossi Vaananen.
Donovan slipped the puck around Burke's outstretched left leg at 17:52 for his second successful penalty shot of the season. It was the 16th goal for the defensive-minded right wing.
