NHL: Boston 2, NY Islanders 2 (OT)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- P.J. Axelsson scored with 1:57 left in regulation Tuesday to lift the Boston Bruins into a 2-2 tie with the New York Islanders.

Defenseman Sean O'Donnell threw the puck in front from the right side of the net. Axelsson got enough to send it past goaltender Rick DiPietro for his fourth goal of the season and first in 15 games.

Trent Hunter had another solid game for the Islanders, scoring twice in the first period for his fourth two-goal night of the season. He leads all NHL rookies with 18 goals.

Hunter beat Felix Potvin with a hard shot off the left boards at 5:56, thn shoved a rebound of Shawn Bates' backhander past the goalie with 2:39 left to snap a 1-1 tie.

Bruins captain Joe Thornton picked up an assist on Glen Murray's 15th goal in his first game back from surgery to repair a fractured cheekbone.
