The 51-year-old Martin joined the Senators in January 1996 and received his last contract extension following the 2001-02 season.

Martin, who also has coached the St. Louis Blues, owns a career mark of 391-312-116, including a 325-241-93 record with the Senators.

The Senators have made the playoffs each of the last seven seasons, losing to the New Jersey Devils in Game Seven of the 2003 Eastern Conference finals.

The Ontario native became the 13th coach to win 300 games with one team with a 3-0 victory over Anaheim on Oct. 17.
