NHL: Philaldelphia 2, Buffalo 1

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Jeremy Roenick's pair of goals Saturday led the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Roenick had the final shot on an empty net from inside the Buffalo blue line with seconds to go, but it sailed high. His last three-goal game was with Phoenix on Feb. 28, 2001, against the Sabres.

It was Roenick's second two-goal game of the season . The other was Dec. 30 vs. St. Louis.

Roenick's winning goal and team-leading 18th came at 9:05 of the second period with a quick one-timer on a backhand pass from Mark Recchi.

Just eight minutes earlier, Ales Kotalik tied the game from the top of the left faceoff circle with Buffalo's first shot of the period. It was Kotalik's first goal in 14 games, dating to Dec. 26.

Roenick scored the first goal just over three minutes into the game.
