MOSCOW, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who runs both Basic Element and Russian Aluminum, plans to buy a soccer team based in southern Russia.
Known as the Kuban team, Deripaska hopes to close by April the deal for a 50 percent share now held by the Krasnodar Territory administration, Novostoi reported Friday.
No price was disclosed.
The Kuban club will perform in 2004 in the premier league, the top division of Russian football. The team had figured in the Supreme League during the championships until the early 1980s when its status was reduced to outsiders.
