Diamondbacks ink Jim Parque

PHOENIX, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed lefthander Jim Parque to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Parque, who turns 28 on Feb. 8, spent last year in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' organization. In five starts, he went 1-1 with an ERA of 11.94 before he was released on Sept. 12.

A 1997 second-round pick, Parque spent his first five seasons with the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed his best season in 2000, going 13-6 with a 4.28 ERA before being beset by arm problems.

He was 30-33 in five seasons in Chicago. His signing brings the total to 13 players who have received invitations to spring training.
