JERSEY CITY, N.J., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- James Toney suffered a torn left Achilles tendon while sparring on Wednesday, forcing him to pull out of his Feb. 7 match against Jameel McCline.

No rescheduled date was announced and Toney, 35, may be out three months.

Toney (67-4-2, 43 KOs) had one of the most memorable fights of 2003, when he captured the IBF cruiserweight title with a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Vassiliy Jirov. Before that contest, he had not fought for a major title since losing the IBF super middleweight belt to Roy Jones Jr. in November 1994.

After defeating Jirov, Toney expressed a desire for a rematch with Jones, who captured the WBA heavyweight title with a unanimous decision over John Ruiz in March 2003. However, Jones elected to drop back to light heavyweight and beat Antonio Tarver for the WBC and IBF belts on Nov. 8.

McCline (30-3-3, 18 KOs) has won his last two bouts since being stopped in the 10th round by Wladimir Klitschko in December 2002.
