MEMPHIS, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- University of Memphis men's basketball coach John Calipari has signed a contract extension that carries him through 2010.
The extension adds three years to the two he had remaining on his old deal.
Financial terms were not disclosed. The Commercial Appeal reported that, with incentives, the old contract would have paid him $1.4 million annually.
"He has brought continuity and stability to our basketball program and has established the University of Memphis as a major factor in recruiting on a national level," said Athletic Director R.C. Johnson.
"I would like to thank the administration .. for the great opportunity that has been extended to my family," Calipari said. "I certainly see a long and bright future for the Tiger basketball program."
While at Memphis, Calipari, 44, has a mark of 81-35. In 12 seasons as a head coach, he is 274-106, ranking him among the top 15 winningest active coaches, even though he has drawn minor criticism for not making the NCAA Tournament the past three seasons.
