GREEN BAY, Wis., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Playing 90 miles north of its campus due to a bizarre arrangement, No. 21 Marquette was routed Friday night by Southern Mississippi, 83-61.
Originally scheduled to be played in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday, the game was moved to Green Bay in September at the request of Southern Mississippi, a decision that prompted a backlash directed at both schools.
Despite a partisan crowd, the Golden Eagles (11-4, 2-2 C-USA) looked uncomfortable in their first appearance at the Resch Center and dropped their second straight game. They were coming off a 73-65 defeat to seventh-ranked Cincinnati.
