NHL: Tampa Bay 4, New Jersey 1

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Cory Stillman, Dave Andreychuk and Fredrik Modin scored third-period goals Friday night as Tampa Bay defeated New Jersey, 4-1.

Before the game, New Jersey honored defenseman Ken Daneyko, who retired following last season. The fan favorite had his jersey raised to the rafters during a 10-minute ceremony.

Perhaps moved by the emotion of the moment, the Devils had a quick start as Scott Gomez scored 88 seconds into the contest and Martin Brodeur made a series of saves.

But Martin St. Louis scored a shorthanded goal with one minute remaining in the period and New Jersey managed just nine shots over the final 40 minutes.

After getting nine shots in the second, the Lightning scored three times in their first eight shots of the third.
