NHL: Phoenix 2, Minnesota 0

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Brian Boucher posted his NHL-record fifth consecutive shutout Friday night, giving Phoenix a 2-0 victory over Minnesota.

Entering the contest having not allowed a goal in 265 minutes, 45 seconds, Boucher needed to reach the 3:37 mark of the third period to break Bill Durnan's record, which was set from Feb. 24-March 9, 1949.

With the drama building, the 27-year-old made three saves before breaking the record and finished the game with 21, running his shutout streak to 325 minutes, 45 seconds.

Defenseman Ossi Vaananen gave Boucher all the support he needed, scoring his second goal with 15 seconds remaining in the second period. Rookie Fredrik Sjostrom added insurance early in the third, giving Phoenix a 2-0 advantage.
