The Senators had gone 9

2 since a home loss to Boston on Dec. 13 and entered as the NHL's second-best penalty-killing unit. But facing the NHL's 26th-ranked power play, Ottawa fell one game shy of stretching its run to a club-record 12 games.

With just two goals in its previous 193 1/2 minutes, Buffalo finally cashed in when J.P. Dumont netted a power-play tally late in the second period.

Daniel Briere doubled the lead 4:51 into the third, but the Senators stormed back as Martin Havlat and Todd White scored 25 seconds apart later in the period.
