Nebraska looks inside for new head coach

LINCOLN, Neb., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- It looks like Nebraska could take a new coach from inside the organization, it was reported Tuesday.

A source close to interim coach Bo Pelini told the Lincoln Journal Star Pelini and assistant coach Turner Gill will interview for the Husker head position on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday Cowboy's defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will stay put, despite a $1.5 million offer from Nebraska.

"Mike Zimmer is going to be staying with the Dallas Cowboys," Dallas coach Bill Parcells said. "I think Mike did a good job for us. I am just happy that he is staying here with us. I think he wants to be a pro coach."

Zimmer was apprehensive about taking the job because of the location and viability of the program, the Morning News reported.

Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson released a statement Tuesday confirming Zimmer's withdrawl and said officials would be meeting with Gill, Pelini and "other potential candidates."

The Journal Star identified other possible candidates as Mississippi Coach David Cutcliffe, former Oakland Raiders Coach Bill Callahan and California Coach Jeff Tedford.
