Jackson to enter NFL draft

CORVALLIS, Ore., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Running back Stephen Jackson of Oregon State has decided to make himself available for the NFL draft in April.

Jackson, a 6-3, 233-pound junior from Las Vegas, Nev., set the school's single-season rushing record in 2002 with 1,690 yards. He scored five touchdowns in the Beavers' 55-14 rout of New Mexico in the Las Vegas Bowl, and also is the single-season scoring leader after 132 points this campaign.

"I feel that I've accomplished a lot at the university and on this level," Jackson said. "I am passing the torch to the other running backs."

In 2003, he had 1,545 yards and the general consensus is he could be a high draft pick in the right situation. His 1,855 all-purpose yards topped the old record of 1,705 by his predecessor, Ken Simonton, in 1999, and is the only back in school history to have four 200-yard rushing games.
