Oakland Raiders remain cryptic on coach

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has yet to decide the fate of Bill Callahan, but it would be surprising if the coach is not dismissed.

A year after reaching the Super Bowl, the Raiders tied for the worst record in the NFL at 4-12 and own the second overall pick in the April draft. Callahan is not expected to survive Oakland's freefall.

Compounding that is the mutiny among some of the players. The most outspoken critic is four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Woodson, who engaged in a running feud with Callahan through much of the season and is eligible to become a free agent in March.

"This is where I plan on being and I don't plan on Callahan being here," Woodson said.

Woodson and running back Charlie Garner were deactivated for the season-ending loss by Callahan for missing curfew. In his statement, Callahan said Woodson missed two bed checks the night before Sunday's game.

Woodson thought Callahan's decision to deactivate him was retribution for his criticizing the coach earlier in the season.
