DeAngelo Hall to go pro

PHOENIX, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- As expected, cornerback DeAngelo Hall of Virginia Tech will forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Hall, also a premier kick returner, had a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown Friday night in the Gobblers' 52-49 loss to California in the Insight Bowl, his third of the season.

He also was credited with a team-leading nine tackles in the game.

"I talked it over with my coaches and my family, and I got a lot of feedback from NFL general managers," Hall said after the game. "I thought this was a good decision for me and my family. I came here because of this coaching staff and I've had a great time and now it's time to pursue a career in the NFL."

Hall, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., was a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back, and now is the all-time career leader for punt returns for touchdowns. He joins star running back Kevin Jones, who has made a similar decision.
