LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Defenseman Joe Corvo scored his first goal of the season to snap a tie with 4:09 remaining, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a 4-2 win over Edmonton.
Corvo unleashed a wrist shot from the right point and watched as it redirected off the leg of Oilers defenseman Steve Staios and eluded goaltender Tommy Salo.
Alexander Frolov added an empty-net goal for the Kings, who opened a three-game homestand on the heels of a 1-1
2 road trip.
The Oilers scored first and tied it early in the third period, but still were unable to end their trip on a high note, finishing at 1-1-2.
Hours before the game, Edmonton traded holdout center Mike Comrie to the Philadelphia Flyers for a minor league defenseman and two draft picks, ending a contentious feud.
