NHL: Toronto 3, Tampa Bay 0

TORONTO, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Mats Sundin's 600th career assist came on the first goal of the game 6:57 into the third period Tuesday night as Toronto blanked Tampa Bay, 3-0.

The Maple Leafs won for the 11th time in 12 games.

Toronto tied the Philadelphia Flyers for the NHL's top point total with 44. The Maple Leafs have won three straight games since an overtime loss ended their eight-game winning streak on Dec. 9.

In a game that had been rather slow-paced, Sundin took a drop pass from Gary Roberts atop the right faceoff circle and fired the puck on net. Nikolai Khabibulin stopped the shot, but Roberts was on the doorstep to break the scoreless tie.

Back on the ice for a power play just over a minute later, Roberts returned the favor, setting up Sundin for his 12th goal.
