NHL: Montreal 1, Boston 1 (OT)

MONTREAL, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Montreal and Boston exchanged goals in a span of 1:53 of the second period Tuesday night in a 1-1 tie that was highlighted by a major fight.

A Canadiens-Bruins rivalry may have been renewed, thanks to 18-year-old rookie Patrice Bergeron.

The Bruins' winger caused a third-period free-for-all when he barreled into goaltender Jose Theodore on a rush to the net. Later in the period, he carried defenseman Stephane Quintal into the goal and was quadruple-teamed in the right corner.

Bergeron also was called for kneeing in the first period, one of nine penalties taken by the Bruins. Three were majors.

There also were two fights, capped off by a rare overtime scrum.

Craig Rivet opened the scoring for Montreal at 10:08 of the second before Brian Rolston tied it.
