NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Aaron Brooks threw a career-high five touchdown passes Sunday night as New Orleans overwhelmed the New York Giants, 45-7.
Four of his scoring passes went to Joe Horn. The Saints (7-7) kept their slim playoff hopes alive.
One week after losing three fumbles in a disappointing home loss to Tampa Bay, Brooks answered the criticism of Coach Jim Haslett with a career game.
He had touchdown passes of 50 and 13 yards to Horn in the first half, helping the Saints build a commanding 24-7 lead. After intermission, he added scoring strikes of seven and 18 yards to Horn and 26 yards to Jerome Pathon.
Brooks, who completed 26-of-35 passes for 296 yards, fell one touchdown pass shy of matching Billy Kilmer's franchise record, set in 1969.
Horn established a club record for touchdowns in one game, finished with nine receptions for 133 yards, and in the second quarter, pretended to make a call on a cellphone hidden under the padding of a goalpost after his 13-yard scoring catch.
