ST. PAUL, Minn., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Ed Belfour stopped 28 shots for his third shutout of the season Thursday night, allowing Toronto to blank Minnesota, 1-0.
Belfour made Tom Fitzgerald's first-period goal stand.
One night after Martin Brodeur recorded his 70th career shutout, Belfour produced his 68th as the two jockey for first place among active goaltenders.
Belfour made 10 saves in the first period and 12 in the second but came up with his best stops in the third. During a power play with 6 1/2 minutes left, he got his right skate on Andrew Brunette's point-blank shot.
Belfour also gloved Richard Park's one-timer from the edge of the right faceoff circle with just over two minutes to play.
Fitzgerald scored the only goal Belfour needed 11:37 into the game.
