NHL: Chicago 4, Detroit 3 (OT)

CHICAGO, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Chicago ended a 14-game winless streak with a 4-3 victory over undermanned Detroit Thursday night as Mark Bell scored 15 seconds into overtime.

The Blackhawks were closing in on their first win since Nov. 7 when Detroit's Brendan Shanahan tied it with 68 seconds left in regulation.

Moments after the faceoff to start overtime, Scott Nichol made a perfect saucer pass off the right boards to spring Bell a step behind the Red Wings' defense.

Jason Woolley caught up to him and shoved Bell to the ice just after the winger one-handed a shot that slid past goaltender Curtis Joseph.

It was the sixth goal of the season and first game-winner for Bell. It ended the Blackhawks' longest winless streak since the 1959-60 season.

Detroit played without 10 injured regulars.
