DETROIT, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Aaron McKie and Eric Snow combined for 38 points Tuesday and lifted shorthanded Philadelphia to its third straight victory, a 78-76 triumph over Detroit.
Alen Iverson, the NBA's leading scorer at 29.4 points per game, did not make the trip due to a sore right knee he aggravated Friday in Miami. With the Sixers playing just one game in seven days, Coach Randy Ayers opted to rest his superstar and hope for the best.
McKie, the 2001 Sixth Man Award winner, started for Iverson and scored 21 points. The former Piston scored 10 points in the third quarter to help the Sixers widen their lead, then made a pair of jumpers on consecutive possessions down the stretch.
Snow, the starting point guard, collected 17 points and seven assists.
Detroit had a chance to tie the game, but the 6-5 McKie blocked 7-footer Mehmet Okur's jumper as time expired.
