Bellotti gets contract extension

EUGENE, Ore., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- The contract of Oregon football coach Mike Bellotti has been extended by one year.

In a release on the school's Web site, Athletic Director Bill Moos said it is an extension of his original pact by virtue of a rollover provision that was added almost a year ago. The rollover will occur each year to give him five remaining years on the deal.

This one extends Bellotti's contract through June 30, 2009. His annual salary remains at $650,000, with his total compensation package, including incentives, estimated at $1.1 million.

Oregon has won more games during his head coaching tenure (75-33-0) than any other school in the Pacific-10 Conference. In this his ninth year at the helm, the Ducks went 8-4 overall, 5-2 PAC-10, and have accepted an invitation to play a yet to be named Big Ten opponent in the Sun Bowl on Dec.31.

The Oregonian reported the likely opponent will be either Michigan State or Minnesota. It will be the Ducks' seventh straight bowl appearance.
