NHL: Boston 6, Atlanta 4

ATLANTA, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Martin Lapointe scored the go-ahead goal with 8:40 left in the third period Wednesday night as Boston ended a four-game winless streak, 6-4 over Atlanta.

The Thrashers squandered three leads before giving up Lapointe's goal following a poor line change with the puck in their own zone. Defenseman Shawn Heins could not get into the play in time to break up rookie Patrice Bergeron's pass to Lapointe, who easily beat goaltender Pasi Nurminen with a point-blank shot to make it 5-4.

Rob Zamuner added an empty-net goal for the Bruins, who took 41 shots in a wild contest that saw Vyacheslav Kozlov give Atlanta the lead after just 19 seconds.

Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist for Boston while Marc Savard and Shawn McEachern each scored a goal and set one up for the Thrashers.
