Finalists named for O'Brien Award

FORT WORTH, Texas, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Jason White of Oklahoma, expected to be the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, has been named one of three finalists for the Davey O'Brien Award.

The others are Eli Manning of Mississippi and Philip Rivers of North Carolina State. The award is given annually to the top quarterback of the country.

White has thrown 40 touchdown passes for 3,364 yards, just six interceptions, and leads the nation in passing efficiency for the top-ranked Sooners, who play Kansas State in the Big 12 Conference title game on Saturday night.

Manning, who also is likely to receive some Heisman consideration, has thrown 27 touchdown passes for 3,341 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

Rivers has thrown for 4,016 yards and 29 scores.

The winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 11 in Orlando, Fla.
