Fiedler, Akers among NFL honorees

NEW YORK, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Miami quarterback Jay Fielder and placekicker David Akers were among those named winners of weekly players honors in the NFL.

Fielder, named AFC Player of the Week, was joined by Buffalo end Aaron Schobel (defense) and kick returner Bethel Johnson of New England (special teams). The NFC winners were running back Deuce McAllister of New Orleans (offense), St. Louis end Leonard Little (defense), and Akers (special teams).

Fiedler completed 16-of -0 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns without an interception and also ran for a score against the NFL's No. 1-ranked defense as the Dolphins routed Dallas, 40-21.

It was the first time he earned a Player of the Week Award.

Akers, one of the game's most accurate kickers, booted four field goals in the Eagles' 25-16 win at Carolina. For the season, he has made 19-of-22 field goal attempts and 26-of-26 extra points for 83 points.

Also, McAllister carried 30 times for 165 yards and four receptions for 31 yards in the Saints' 24-20 win at Washington.
