MEMPHIS, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Memphis is headed to its first bowl game in 32 years after accepting an invitation Monday from the New Orleans Bowl.
Memphis will play North Texas in the Dec. 16 game at the Superdome in New Orleans.
"We set postseason play as one of our goals for this year and we now have achieved that goal," Memphis coach Tommy West said.
The Tigers, a member of Conference USA, were 8-4 this season, their best regular season since 1973. The last bowl appearance for the Tigers was a 28-9 win over San Jose State in the 1971 Pasadena Bowl.
The only other bowl appearance for the Tigers was a 32-12 win over East Tennessee State in the 1956 Burley Bowl.
