LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Hermann Maier added another chapter to his comeback Sunday, leading an Austrian sweep of the top four places in the first super-G of the World Cup season.
Maier, whose career appeared over two years ago after a motorcycle accident left him near death with a demolished right leg, looked like the old "Herminator" as he raced down the men's Olympic course in a time of 1 minute, 36.69 seconds to collect his 43rd career win.
The double Olympic champion led an Austrian assault on the podium with Michael Walchhofer, winner of Saturday's season-opening downhill, taking second in 1:36.95, and Stephan Eberharter, the reigning overall World Cup and super-G champion, taking third in 1:37.24.
Benjamin Raich added to the Austrian success by coming in fourth in 1:37.64.
After nearly two years on the sidelines, Maier made his return to the World Cup circuit last January.
